The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in implementing replay technology.
Replay technology are set to arrive at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Competitors are granted the right to contest particular calls from the official, following the practice currently in place at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This move arrives only a year after the All England Club introduced ELC, which terminated the centuries-old tradition of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to re-examine other situations, including:
- If a ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
- Possible interference end of a point.
Importantly, there is no cap on the amount of reviews a player can initiate.
Practical Application
An illustrative case took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player initiated the video challenge against his opponent.
Draper conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire watched a replay and determined Draper was responsible for interference, granting the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open this year.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.
Other Changes
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves instances where the crowd have sometimes been unsure if a shot was in or out.
In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
