The Reason the DNC is Hiding their 2024 Election Autopsy: An Analysis.

The move by the Democratic National Committee to suppress the publication regarding its internal autopsy report concerning the last presidential race is stunning yet entirely predictable. Resistant to hard truths, the DNC often functions more like a publicity machine rather than an electoral entity devoted to building grassroots capacities to secure victories.

A Culture of Conformity

Reluctant to challenge the party establishment's culture of conformity, the committee has remained under the Biden-Harris shadow all through 2025. Making public such a report might have shown whether party leaders actually want to foster honest conversation regarding the missteps that paved the way for the former president to become president again. Yet, the DNC is proceeding as if there's nothing to understand from the electoral catastrophe of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? Should the answer be negative, it’s a distraction from our fundamental goal," a justification which was presented to justify concealing the analysis.

Critical Problems an Autopsy Could Have Explored

An autopsy report worth its salt would tackle head-on certain uncomfortable matters. These include:

  • Electoral Disengagement: The loss of a significant portion of the electorate that backed the Democratic ticket in 2020 became a critical factor during the tight recent race.
  • A Insistence to Run: The unwavering insistence of the incumbent to run again, alongside a last-minute withdrawal, has been criticized as denying the party's base of a competitive nomination process.
  • Abandoning the Working-Class Base: Amid rising costs, the campaign allegedly ceding to elite contributors and not managing to challenge the impact of big business.
  • A Foreign Policy Factor: The refusal to adjust a stance on the situation in Gaza reportedly led to driving away significant blocs, especially with young people, Arab-Americans, Muslim voters.
  • A Decline in Young Voter Backing: Research indicates a huge drop-off in support for the party from voters aged 18-29.

A Pattern Shunning Scrutiny

This refusal aligns with a longstanding habit of sidestepping uncomfortable facts. It recalls a dynamic where the vast majority of elected Democrat in Washington went along with a sitting president's decision for running for re-election until a disastrous campaign event led to a reversal.

Meanwhile, large majorities of the electorate had been consistently telling surveyors that they opposed the incumbent to run again.

Campaign Spending Questions

A substantive autopsy would also investigate matters about where money went, including what sums were directed to high-priced advisors as well as media firms during a campaign which expended an enormous amount over a few months.

The Broader Issue

Ultimately, the secrecy of the official autopsy points to a submission to the established hierarchy responsible for an unsuccessful presidential campaign. The implication for rank-and-file members – which includes countless loyal volunteers – appears to be that they cannot have a right to understand the lessons the leadership say they discovered based on hundreds of interviews drawing from conversations with insiders.

An organization unable to publicly examine its own failings finds it difficult to break free from the rut that proved so beneficial to the winning candidate.
