The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Whenever a prominent awards ceremony draws close, there’s always a demand for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the spirits of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
